Basic Rifle Marksmanship and Data Collection Course

 

This course is designed to teach shooters how to confidently and accurately operate their rifle platform while building a foundational understanding of external ballistics and D.O.P.E. (Data On Previous Engagements). Students will learn proper rifle setup, zeroing procedures, shooting fundamentals, and how to gather accurate data to build a usable ballistic chart for future long-range engagements.

 

The goal is to leave students with:

-A confirmed rifle zero

-An understanding of mechanical offset and trajectory

-A documented D.O.P.E. chart

-The ability to make accurate hits at varying distances

-The confidence to continue gathering data independently

 

 

 

Recommended Student Equipment

 

Required

-Semi-automatic rifle or precision rifle

-Minimum 3 magazines

-Sling

-Rifle optic (LPVO, red dot + magnifier, MPVO, or scope)

-Eye and ear protection

-Note-taking materials/data book

-Weather appropriate clothing

-Hydration and snacks

 

Recommended

-Bipod or shooting bag(will have spare bags for students)

-Ballistic calculator app(INSTRUCTOR WILL GO OVER WHAT ONES ON THE DAY OF)

-Kestrel or weather meter(Not required)

-Spotting scope/binoculars(Instructor will have a few sets

-Rear support bag

 

Ammunition Requirements

200–300 rounds rifle ammunition(Bring a few different kinds and grain weights for zeroing to your rifle) Reach out if you have questions

 

 TRAINING OBJECTIVES

-By the end of this course students will:

-Understand rifle safety and range procedures

-Understand optic setup and mounting principles

-Learn how to properly establish a rifle zero

-Understand Minutes of Angle (MOA) and Milliradians (MIL)

-Learn trajectory and bullet behavior

-Understand environmental influences on bullet flight

-Gather and record shooting data

-Build and confirm a basic D.O.P.E. chart

-Engage targets at varying distances using collected data
